Baum am Aletschgletscher
Blickt man an diesem Baum entlang, scheint es, als würde er Geschichten erzählen, was er alles in den letzten hunderten von Jahren gesehen und erlebt hat. Leider ist mir das Alter dieses vom Wind geschliefenen und vielleicht vom Blitz gekennzeichneten Baumes nicht bekannt, aber er wird sicher so einiges auf dem Buckel haben. Wie eine Skulptur ragt er stolz auf einer der Seitenmoränen des Aletschgletschers auf und bot uns einen schönen Platz, um bei der langen Wanderung eine Pause einzulegen.
Während ich den Baum vor Ort in Augenschein genommen hatte war mir sofort klar, dass ich ein Schwarzweißbild machen wollte, um den skulpturalen Charakter und die vielen feinen Strukturen optimal zur Geltung zu bringen. Bei der Nachbearbeitung habe ich vor allem die sehr dunklen unteren Bereiche aufgehellt und den Himmel etwas abgedunkelt, da die Helligkeitsunterschied sehr extrem waren. In Camera Raw habe ich desweiteren die Struktur und Kontraste des Baumes erhöht und anschliessend in Photoshop mit Niks SilverEfexPro die Umwandlung in Schwarzweiß vorgenommen. Hierbei kam es besonders auf die Auslotung der Umsetzung der Farbbereiche an, um sowohl in den Wolken als auch in der Oberfläche des Baumes die passende Zeichnung zu erzielen.

When you are looking along the tree it seems that he was telling stories what he has seen and experienced within the last hundreds of years. Unfortunately I don’t know the age of the tree that is polished by the wind and scarred by a thunderstrike, but I assume that he is quite old. He is towering up like a sculpture on the lateral moraine of the glacier aletsch and offered a wonderful place to rest on a long hiking.
While I was having a closer look to the tree it was quickly clear to me that I will take a black and white capture in order to show the sculptural character and the fine structures. During the post production I’ve lightened the dark lower parts and darkened the light sky because the difference of the light was too huge. Additionally I emphazied in Camera Raw the structure and contrasts of the tree and converted the picture in Nik SilverEfexPro to black&white afterwards. For this step its very important to find the right balance of the color areas in order to get the perfect structure within the light clouds and the darker surfarce of the tree.
